Hearing Conservation Training

Because noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) usually happens gradually and the symptoms are not always apparent, it is vital to educate employees on the effects of exposure to loud noise, and train them to properly use hearing protection.

A Hearing Conservation Program places hearing loss prevention at its core. This typically includes these six initiatives:

• Noise exposure assessment
• Audiometric testing
• Hearing protection selection and fit testing
• Employee training and education
• Record keeping
• Program evaluation.

Signs That Noise May Be A Problem In Your Workplace

• Employees hear ringing or humming after exposure to loud sounds.
• Noise is impeding communication, so that employees must shout to be heard by a coworker an arm’s length away.
• Employees experience temporary loss of hearing after leaving work.
